Former American University men's basketball standout Vlad Moldoveanu '11 returns to the nation's capital on Saturday, July 27, joining the D.C. Doberman's of The Basketball Alumni Legends League (The-BALL) for four games over the next week and a half.
Moldoveanu comes back to the hardwood in D.C., as the Doberman's will play four games in George Washington's Charles E. Smith Center, beginning on July 27 vs. a squad made up of Maryland area college stars. The action continues on Thursday, August 1 vs. North Carolina, Saturday August 3 vs. Virginia and Monday August 5 vs. Philadelphia. All games are at 7 p.m.
A two-year star for American, Moldoveanu is a two-time All-Patriot League First Team selection, leading the team in scoring each season (18.1 ppg, 20.4 ppg). He made his mark in the league early in his career, scoring 39 points against Lehigh (1/8/11), good for 7th all-time in the AU record book. As a senior, he set a conference record with eight Patriot League Player of the Week awards. Despite just two years on campus, Moldoveanu is one of just 29 players to reach the 1,000-point plateau and ranks 10th all-time at AU with 108 career 3-pointers made.
Moldoveanu will be joined by local area products from Georgetown: Austin Freeman,
Chris Wright, Jonathan Wallace and Henry Sims, George Washington: Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Chris Monroe, Tony Taylor and Danilo "JR" Pinnock, and George Mason: Jai Lewis.
