American University men's basketball senior Charles Hinkle was one of 64 senior student-athletes selected to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational, being held this week in Portsmouth, Va.
The four-day, 12-game tournament honors the top senior college basketball players in the country and allows them to play in front of representatives from every NBA team. The tournament will begin on Wednesday, April 11 and conclude on Saturday, April 14.
Hinkle was the lone Patriot League student-athlete chosen to participate in the event and will be playing on the K&D Rounds Landscaping team.
The senior forward was a NABC Second Team All-District and First Team All-Patriot League selection after leading the Eagles with 18.4 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Hinkle tallied 15 20-point games this season and led American in scoring 22 times in a breakout year for the Eagles, ranking among the top 50 scorers in the nation all season. He finished the year tied for fourth all-time at American with 85 three-pointers made in a single season and fifth with 155 made free throws.
He is only the second American University student-athlete to participate in the event. Vlad Moldoveanu '11 played in last year's tournament.
Hinkle's K&D Landscaping team will begin tournament play on Wednesday, April 11 at 9 p.m.
