The American University men's basketball team will look to extend its home win streak to 12-straight games when they host Bucknell on Thursday, February 23 at 7 p.m. A win would tie the Eagles with Bucknell and Lehigh for first place in the Patriot League.
American tallied its second consecutive 20+-point win with a 74-50 victory over Army to clinch a home Patriot League quarterfinal game. Charles Hinkle led the Eagles with 18 points while Troy Brewer and Hinkle each tallied a team-high seven rebounds. Daniel Munoz posted a career-high 10 assists.
The Eagles ended the half on a 7-2 run to take a 30-25 lead into the intermission. Army kept it tight to start the second half before American went on a 17-4 run over the next six minutes of play to take the 58-38 lead with 6:56 left. The Black Knights were never able to cut American's lead to less than 18 points in the closing minutes.
American shot a season-high 60.4 percent from the field and went 7-of-14 from beyond the arc. The Eagles outrebounded the Black Knights by a 33-25 margin in the game. Ella Ellis was the only double-digit scorer for Army as he posted a team-high 16 points. Army was held to 32.7 percent shooting from the field and 14.3 percent from three-point range.
The current home win streak is the most since the 2008-09 season, when the Eagles won 12-straight games at home.
Bucknell owns an overall record of 20-8 and are first with a 10-2 mark in conference play. The Bison lead the all-time series against American, 30-20, with the Eagles holding the 13-11 advantage at home. Bucknell has won each of the last five meetings between the two teams and defeated American earlier this season in Lewisburg, 67-61, after the team fought back from a 15-point deficit in the second half.
Mike Muscala leads Bucknell and is fourth in the Patriot League with 16.3 ppg. He also leads the conference with 9.1 rpg and is ranked third with 1.6 bpg. Joe Willman leads the Patriot League with a 53.8 field goal percentage with Cameron Ayers shooting a league-high 46.5 percent from beyond the arc.
