The American University men's basketball team will travel to Army on Saturday, February 18 at 4 p.m. as they look to pick up their ninth conference victory and remain in second place of the Patriot League standings.
The Eagles remained a perfect 11-0 in Bender Arena on Wednesday night as they cruised to a 69-47 victory over Navy. Charles Hinkle led all scorers with 18 points as Tony Wroblicky recorded his second career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Hinkle's 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc in the game placed him seventh at American for three-point percentage in a single game. This is the second time Hinkle has made the list for 80.0 percent shooting from three-point range.
The Eagles also played their best defensive game of the season and never trailed by less than 20 points in the second half, holding Navy to a season-low 47 points on 31.8 percent shooting. Thurgood Wynn led the Midshipmen with 10 points and no other Navy player finished with more than seven.
American outshot the Midshipmen 49.1 percent to 31.8 percent and converted nearly half of their three-point attempts (8-of-17). They also worked hard on the defensive end, outrebounding Navy 33-24 and allowing just three three-point field goals in the game.
The Eagles hold a 22-3 lead in the all-time series against Army and are 8-2 when playing in West Point, N.Y. American has won each of the last four games and 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams.
American defeated Army 67-55 earlier this season. Troy Brewer led the Eagles with 22 points and went 6-of-8 from three-point range while Wroblicky also scored in double-digits with 12 points. Wroblicky went 5-of-7 from the floor and also posted a team-high nine rebounds. Daniel Munoz tallied six assists and two steals in the game.
