The American University men's basketball team hosts Army for Phil Bender Day 2012 as they look to extend their perfect 8-0 win streak at home. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
The Eagles will be looking for their third straight win after picking up a 67-60 victory over Navy. Charles Hinkle recorded his second consecutive double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. Daniel Munoz tallied a team-high seven assists.
After taking a 25-point lead early in the second half, American withstood a rally from the Midshipmen to cut it to four with just 55 seconds remaining. But consecutive turnovers by the Midshipmen gave the Eagles back the ball. Munoz hit a pair of clutch free throws and Tony Wroblicky added one of his own for the 67-60 win.
The Eagles shot 51.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three-point range, good for third-best all-time at American in a single game.
American holds a 21-3 advantage over Army and a perfect 12-0 record against the Black Knights when playing in Bender Arena. The Eagles have won 11 of the last 12 contests against Army dating back to February 14, 2007.
American's eight-game win streak at home is the best since the 2008-09 season, when the Eagles won 12-straight in Bender Arena.
All American University students in attendance Saturday are encouraged to arrive early for the best seats and can enjoy a free pre-game fan fest with complimentary food and drinks courtesy of Blue Crew sponsors Domino's Pizza, Coca-Cola, and Robeks Smoothies of Tenleytown beginning at 1 p.m. There will also be face painting and sign making stations, and all in attendance are encouraged to "Wear Blue" for the Comcast SportsNet television audience.
