Game Notes

The American University men's basketball team hosts Holy Cross on Saturday, January 14 as they look to extend their perfect 7-0 record in Bender Arena. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

American fell to Lehigh on the road, 71-60, on Wednesday night despite a 22-point effort from Charles Hinkle. Hinkle recorded his 11th 20-point game of the season on 8-of-18 shooting from the field, including hitting five three-pointers. Four players recorded five rebounds while Tony Wroblicky had a team-high three blocks and reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Week John Schoof notched a career-high five assists.

The Eagles took an early lead on a four-point play from Hinkle. C.J. McCollum's three-point play brought the Mountain Hawks within one and a pair of McCollum free throws gave Lehigh its first lead. Gabe Knutson came up with a steal on the Eagles' final possession of the half and scored to give the Mountain Hawks a 30-28 advantage at the break.

Lehigh's Jordan Hamilton and John Adams drained back-to-back three's for the 48-41 lead with 12:30 left in the game. The Mountain Hawks took their first double-digit lead of the game, 56-46, on an Adams three-pointer. Lehigh led by as many as 16 and walked away with the 71-60 win.

American shot 40.7 percent from the field in the game and 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. Lehigh was 38.3 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from three-point range. McCollum led all scorers with 26 points while Holden Greiner grabbed nine boards.

The Eagles perfect 7-0 record at home is the best since the 2008-09 season, when American won 12-straight games at home.

Holy Cross owns a 15-10 all-time record against the Eagles in Patriot League play. American holds a 7-6 advantage when playing in Bender Arena. American defeated Holy Cross in both meetings last season, including a 64-60 win in Bender Arena to clinch the number two seed in last season's Patriot League tournament.

Holy Cross has posted an overall record of 8-8 this season and are 2-0 in Patriot League play. The Crusaders opened the conference with an 84-78 victory over Lehigh and then defeated Navy, 73-69, on Wednesday. Devin Brown has led the Crusaders in scoring this season with 15.8 ppg while R.J. Evans has recorded 12.8 ppg. Dave Dudzinski is ranked second in the Patriot League with 6.9 rpg.
