American University Athletics announced today a contract extension through the 2016 season for Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Jones. Jones led last year's team to its third 20-win season in the past four seasons.
"I'm proud of our program's accomplishments over the last 11 years both on and off the court. The entire AU community has been extremely supportive and I look forward to the next five years with great anticipation," said Jones.
Beginning his 12th season at the helm of the men's basketball team, Jones has enjoyed winning seasons in eight out of 11 campaigns. His 182 wins are the most of any coach in program history. Jones led American to back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
"It's a great day for the AU men's basketball program and for the entire University. We are thrilled that this contract extension will ensure that Jeff will continue to lead our program," commented Director of Athletics and Recreation Keith Gill.
American finished its 2010-11 season with a 22-9 record, boasting 12 road victories and 11 non-conference wins.
The 2011-12 season tips off at Richmond on November 11. The Eagles play their first home game of the year on November 16 against Florida Atlantic.
