The American University men's basketball team will begin play in the 2011 Patriot League Tournament Wednesday, March 2 live on CBS College Sports. The second-seeded Eagles will host seventh-seeded Colgate at Bender Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
American closed out its regular season Saturday with a thrilling double-overtime victory at Lafayette. Vlad Moldoveanu led all scorers with 30 points while Troy Brewer notched a career-high 28. Brewer netted 13 points after regulation, including eight of the team's 16 points in the second extra session.
American earned the No. 2 seed after posting a 21-8 overall record and 11-3 record in the Patriot League. This marks the sixth time in the last 10 years the Eagles have earned either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the conference tournament while their 21 wins are sixth most in program history.
The Patriot League announced its all-conference selections on Monday, naming Moldoveanu to the first team and Stephen Lumpkins to the second team. Moldoveanu will enter tournament play averaging 19.9 ppg and 6.3 rpg, and was also named the conference's Player of the Week on Monday. Lumpkins has averaged 13.1 ppg and 7.9 rpg on the year and leads the League in shooting percentage at 58.5 percent. Nick Hendra, meanwhile, was named to the inauguarl Academic All-Patriot League Team after posting a 3.36 cumulative GPA while averaging 7.8 ppg and 4.2 apg.
