The American University men's basketball team begins Patriot League Tournament play this Wednesday, March 3, as the #4 seed when it hosts fifth-seeded Navy. Tipoff from Bender Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. American, which has now earned a top-four seed in the conference tournament all nine seasons it has been a member of the Patriot League, has never lost in the first round of the tournament and has appeared in five of the eight championship games since joining the Patriot League.

American earned the tournament's fourth seed after finishing the regular season tied with Navy for fourth place with a 7-7 conference mark. The Eagles, however, owned the head-to-head tiebreaker with Navy after defeating Navy twice this season. American has won four straight games against the Midshipmen and is 2-0 all-time against Navy in the Patriot League Tournament.

The Eagles are 15-6 all-time in the Patriot League Tournament, posting the most conference tournament victories since joining the league in 2001-02. American has appeared in five Patriot League Championship Games, second most in that time, and captured each of the last two Patriot League Tournament Championship. The Eagles are also the only team to earn a top four seed each year since 2001-02.

The Eagles finished the regular season on a high note Saturday when they defeated Lafayette for the 12th straight time, 78-60. American shot a season-high 57.4 percent from the field in the victory while limiting the Leopards to 34.7 percent shooting. The Eagles also held an impressive 34-6 advantage in the paint and outscored Lafayette 22-8 off turnovers. Vlad Moldoveanu and Stephen Lumpkins combined for 50 points to power the team to victory, scoring 26 points and 24 points, respectively.
