The American University men's basketball team will host the
University of Maryland Baltimore County this Sunday, December 20.
Tipoff from Bender Arena is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The Eagles are
2-2 all-time against the Retrievers after taking a 74-61 contest
last season on the campus of UMBC. Sunday's matchup will be the
first home game for the Eagles in 19 days.
American defeated BIG EAST conference member DePaul 62-57 on Wednesday at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. Junior Vlad Moldoveanu, who was making his first appearance of the season, made an immediate impact on the team, scoring a game-high 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lead the Eagles to the victory. Moldoveanu also grabbed eight rebounds, hit five three-pointers and dished out four assists in 28 minutes of action.
Hendra hit a three with 2:23 to play, giving American
a 59-57 lead which it would not relinquish. Hendra finished the
night with a career-high 17 points and three treys. Sophomore Stephen
Lumpkins notched a career-high 14 rebounds as the
Eagles outrebounded DePaul by a margin of 39-27.
Lumpkins has paced American this season with 12.1 ppg and leads the conference in both rebounding and blocks at 8.6 rpg and 1.8 bpg, respectively. He has been complimented by classmate Riley Grafft's 9.0 ppg and 5.6 rpg while Hendra has added 8.7 ppg and 4.9 rpg.
