Men's Basketball Seeks to End Skid Monday Against Fairfield

The American University men’s basketball team will take on Fairfield on Monday, November 23, at 7:30 p.m. inside of Bender Arena. Monday’s game will be the fourth game of American’s current five-game homestand. The Eagles and Stags have previously met 14 times with American holding an 8-6 record in the all-time series. Last season, however, Fairfield defeated American on its home court, 82-73.

American is off to an 0-4 start this year after falling to Florida Atlantic on Saturday, 81-69. The Eagles trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half but a valient comeback effort brought the score to within four, 71-67, with just 1:15 remaining. The Owls were solid down the stretch at the free throw line though and held on for the victory.

Sophomore Stephen Lumpkins led all scorers with a career-high 23 points in the loss, as he connected on 9-of-13 attempts. Lumpkins added nine rebounds while playing a career-best 36 minutes. Freshman Blake Jolivette, who helped spark American’s comeback, scored all 13 of his points in the second half with four assists.

Lumpkins leads the Eagles in both scoring and rebounding this season, averaging 15.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Lumpkins, who is shooting at a 48.0 percent clip from the floor, has recorded a career-high in points each game this season. Sophomore Riley Grafft has notched 9.3 ppg and 4.5 rpg while freshman Mike Bersch has added 8.7 ppg in three appearances this season.

American University Presents: Eye on the Eagles returns for a second season this Sunday, November 29, on Comcast SportsNet at 10 a.m. Eye on the Eagles is a monthly 30-minute television show which takes an in-depth look at American University Athletics.
