WASHINGTON - The Department of Athletics is currently accepting nominations for the 40th class of the Stafford H. Cassell Hall of Fame. Sponsored by the Cassell Family, the Hall of Fame was developed to recognize the achievement of individuals associated with American University Athletics and Recreation.
Former AU athletes, coaches, administrators and friends who have made outstanding contributions to AU are eligible to receive this distinction. Only athletes who played from 1999 and prior are currently eligible.
The Stafford H. Cassell Hall of Fame was created in 1969. The Hall of Fame's first induction class included basketball and football standouts W. James Birthright and Bruce R Kessler, football, track and boxing star Joseph P. Carlo, and former Athletics Director, head coach, and three-sport athlete Hugo "Dutch" Schulze.
To submit a nomination, please send an email to eaglesclub@american.edu by November 1, 2008. Please include as much information as possible, including years at AU, accomplishments and awards.
This year's induction ceremony will be held on January 31, 2009 in the Mary Graydon center on AU's campus. To view a complete list of current members of the Hall of Fame, click here.
