AU Men's and Women's Cross Country Head to PL Championships

Oct. 26, 2007
WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the 2007 Patriot League Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Oct. 27, held in Easton, Pa. Both teams will look to their veteran leaders for strong performances as the men's team seeks its sixth consecutive conference crown and the women's team looks for its first since 2003.
On the men's side, the Eagles are led by a seasoned top four that includes seniors Steve Hallinan, Brendan Fennell, and Brian McCabe, and junior Carlos Jamieson. Hallinan has consistently been AU's top finisher this season, leading the way for the Eagles at the Navy Invitational and a week later at the Iona Meet of Champions, where he finished second overall. Fennell, last year's PL Cross Country Individual Champion, will look to defend his title from a year ago as both he and Hallinan are former conference champions. McCabe and Jamieson will also be key to the Eagles success as both were scoring members of last year's championship team.
For the women, seniors Kate Lilley and Cathleen Ford lead a young and talented group of Eagle harriers. Lilley has shown strong efforts throughout this season, winning the Mt. St. Mary's Invite to open the season, and has continued to run well since. Ford ran an impressive 20:58 two weeks ago on the Lafayette course and with it garnered Patriot League Female Runner of the Week.
The championship course for Saturday's race is at Metzgar Fields on the campus of Lafayette College. The men's race begins at 11 a.m. with the women's race at noon. For more information on the championship meet and results when available, click here.
