Two Cross Country Runners Bring Home PL Weekly Honors

Oct. 16, 2007

WASHINGTON - The American University cross country teams took home a pair of honors as Carlos Jamieson and Cathleen Ford were named the Patriot League Male and Female Runners of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. This is Jamieson's first weekly award of the season and the third for the men's team, while Ford's honor is the first for both herself and the team.

Jamieson was the Eagles' top finisher at the Lafayette College Invitational Saturday, helping the team to a second place finish. The junior ran the 8k course in 25:33.6 and placed fifth in a field of 141 runners. This was the first meet of the year in which Jamieson was AU's top finisher. Previously he had been the second-place finisher in two meets.

For the second time this season Ford finished first among the American women, placing third at the Lafayette Invite in a time of 20:58.0. The senior runner competed in a field of 122 and helped the eagles to a fifth place finish. Ford previously had placed first at the Navy Invite in Sept.

The Eagles will be off this week in preparation for the PL Championship Meet being held Saturday, Oct. 27, on the same course as the Lafayette Invite in Easton, Pa. The men's team will look to defend its five-straight PL cross country championships while the women's team will be looking to improve upon its sixth-place finish a year ago.
