Sept. 12, 2008

WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the Navy Invitational this Saturday, September 13, at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Md. Both teams are set to take on one of the largest fields ever in this race as they prepare for the Patriot League Championships, which are seven weeks away.

Senior captain Carlos Jamieson will be making his 2008 cross country debut for the men's team. Jamieson finished seventh last year in this race with a time of 24:25.80. Joining him will be junior Garret Martucci, sophomores Conor Sullivan, Colin Eustis, and Jeff Brannigan, along with freshman Josh Olsen, who was recently named Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week. This will be each of these five runners' first 8K race on the Navy course.

The women's team will be led into Annapolis by freshman Octavia Rinehardt, who is coming off of an impressive second place showing at the Mount St. Mary's Invite two weeks ago. She earned PL Female Rookie of Week honors for her performance. This will be her first career 6K race. The Eagles will also be led by junior captain Greta Wicklund, who finished 22nd in this race last year with a time of 23:37.00. The duo will be joined on the starting line by junior Rachel Forcino, sophomore Haleigh Duggan, and freshmen Lauren Scholl and Tara Jakubik.

The men's race is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with the women's race immediately following at noon.
