Steve Hallinan Named to USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Team

WASHINGTON - American University senior Steve Hallinan has been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Cross Country All-Academic Team, USTFCCCA officials announced Monday.

Hallinan has been one of AU's strongest competitors during his tenure at AU and this fall completed his final cross country season as an Eagle. At this year's Patriot League Championships Hallinan placed second and helped his team to its sixth straight PL Championship. Hallinan would then go on to qualify for the NCAA Championships with a seventh place showing at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional and at the NCAA's he placed 153rd in a field of 250.

Hallinan received many honors for both his athletic and academic accomplishments during the cross country season. Hallinan was named to the Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team, All-PL First Team, was the Sept. 26 East Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, the Sept. 25 PL Male Runner of the Week, the Sept. 24 AU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO and was named to the 2007 PL Cross Country Academic Honor Roll.

Hallinan is a business administration major in the Kogod School of Business. A four time member of the PL Cross Country Academic Honor Roll, Hallinan has a cumulative GPA of 3.47 and last semester achieved a GPA of 3.66.

The USTFCCCA All-Academic Team was created to honor those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15 or top ten percent at their respective NCAA regional meet, or receive All-American honors.
