WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's cross country teams placed fourth and fifth, respectively, at the 2008 Patriot League Championships on Saturday at the Lehigh Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pa. Senior Carlos Jamieson placed fourth for the men's team, earning him First Team All-PL honors, while sophomores Jeff Brannigan, Nick Ryan and freshman Octavia Rinehardt were named to the second team.
The AU men's team had their streak of six-consecutive PL Cross Country Championships snapped at the meet, finishing in fourth place. The seven scoring Eagles combined for a time of 2:06:51.2 (25:22.2 avg.) and scored 86 points while Army and Navy each scored 47 points to split the team title. Jamieson placed fourth overall in the race in a time of 24:59.7 to earn First Team All-PL honors. He is joined on the All-PL teams by Brannigan and Ryan who were each named to the second team with finishes of 11th (25:17.9) and 13th (25:20.7), respectively.
Also scoring for the AU men's team were Conor Sullivan (27th-place, 25:34.7), Josh Olsen (31st-place, 25:38.1), Craig Brown (38th-place, 25:51.4) and Colin Eustis (40th-place, 25:58.6).
The women's team finished in fifth place, combining for a time of 1:54:31.7 and 154 points. Navy won the women's team title with 23 points. Rinehardt earned Second Team All-PL honors in her first-career conference meet. The freshman placed eighth, just missing first team honors, in a time of 21:46.0. Greta Wicklund finished just outside of the cutoff for Second Team All-PL in 18th place with a time of 22:15.0. Rachel Forcino placed 32nd in a time of 22:49.8.
Joining Rinehardt, Wicklund and Forcino at the meet were Lauren Scholl (47th-place, 23:39.1), Melissa Tabas (49th-place, 24:01.7), Caitlin Prichard (53rd-place, 24:59.7) and Haleigh Duggan (56th-place, 26:14.4).
