Oct. 3, 2008
WASHINGTON - The American University men's cross country team competed in the 35th annual Paul Short Run on Friday where it placed 16th in a very competitive 45 team field. Senior Carlos Jamieson was the top finisher for AU as he ran to a 19th-place finish.
Friday's field was comprised of nationally and regionally ranked teams including national No. 4 Iona and No. 6 Wisconsin. The Eagles finished in 16th place overall, just behind Patriot League rivals Army and Lehigh who placed 14th and 15th, respectively, and ahead of PL foes Bucknell (26th), Colgate (35th) and Lafayette (42). AU ran a combined 2:05.34 against Army's 2:05.15 and Lehigh's 2:05.33.
Jamieson was the Eagles top-finisher for the second straight meet as he placed 19th in a season-best time of 24:16. Each of the Eagles recorded new season bests at the meet as AU showed a marked improvement over its last performance at the Navy Invitational. Others competing for AU included Jeff Brannigan (93rd, 25:07), Conor Sullivan (94th, 25:07), Josh Olsen (118th, 25:20), Colin Eustis (158th, 25:45) and Jacob Shelly (198th, 26:08).
AU's women's team will be in action tomorrow, Oct. 4, at the George Mason Invitational. The race is scheduled for a 10:45 a.m. start.
