The American University men's cross country team placed fifth at the Iona Meet of Champions Saturday, with three runners finishing in the top 20.
The Eagles finished behind Iona, Brown, Penn State and Navy, respectively, and placed above 16 other schools including Army, Cornell and Harvard. Seven runners competed in the event for AU and contributed to a team score of 120.
Steve Hallinan (Drexel Hill, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) placed second overall in a time of 25:03.0 and for the second meet in a row was the Eagles top finisher. Carlos Jamieson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) placed 10th in the field of 205 with a time of 25:39.20. Brendan Fennell (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) was close behind Jamieson, finishing in a time of 25:48.40 and placed 12th.
The Eagles will return to action next Friday, Sept. 28, as they travel to the George Mason Invitational.
