CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Matthew Rainey earned his second career Academic All-Patriot League Team selection, as released by the league office on Friday.
This is the second consecutive Academic All-PL nod for the Brentwood, Tenn., native after he was selected to the team after the 2017 outdoor track season. Rainey holds a 3.57 cumulative GPA in communications, law, economics & government (CLEG).
Rainey earned his first All-Patriot League finish on the cross country course last week, crossing in 10th overall for a spot on the league's second team. He has been a consistent scorer for the Eagles, placing in the top three for the team in each of the five regular-season meets. He led the squad at the Navy Invitational, placing third overall, before earning a new personal record (PR) at the Paul Short Run to cross as the third AU finisher (24:36.30).
He bumped that PR down a few more notches during the Patriot League Championship with a final time of 24:33.54 to help lead the team to a fourth-place finish.
The Eagles will be back on the line on Friday, Nov. 10, for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, hosted by Lehigh. For the latest on AU Cross Country, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_TrackXC.
