WASHINGTON - The American University cross country team is set to continue its 2017 campaign on Saturday as the men and women head to Annapolis, Md., for the Salty Dog and Navy Invitationals.

ABOUT THE MEET
The women will open the day at 9:45 a.m. at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course with the Salty Dog Invitational 6k, followed by the men at 11 a.m. with the Navy Invitational 8k.

The Eagles will take the line with seven fellow Mid-Atlantic region teams on the women's side with Navy, Bowie State, Maryland, McDaniel, St. Mary's (Md.), Towson and UMBC. The men will face off against five regional competitors with Navy, Bowie State, McDaniel, St. Mary's (Md.) and UMBC.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Eagles opened their 2017 campaign last weekend at the Mount St. Mary's 5k Duals. The men claimed victories in all four duals behind the 1-2-3 punch of junior Ben Doiron (15:16.55), who claimed his first individual cross country victory as an Eagle, junior Matthew Rainey (15:23.71) and senior Alaeldin Tirba (15:28.71). Senior Liam Purdy (15:37.40) and junior Tommy Sommer (15:41.72) closed out AU's scoring efforts with seventh and ninth place overall finishes.

The women also opened with some exciting performances, as they won five of their six duals for the day. The Eagles will look for a bit of redemption on Saturday, as their only loss at Mount St. Mary's came at the hands of Navy, who placed all five scorers in the top ten of the field.

Leading the way for the Eagles was junior Adriana Hooks, who crossed in third overall with a final time of 18:14.16. Sophomore Arianna Lopez crossed next in 18:28.65 for eighth, followed by a pair of freshmen with Shelbi Wuss (18:39.76) and Nadia Stratton (18:46.97) coming in 13th and 15th, respectively. Junior Kassidy Ayres rounded out the Eagles' scorers in 23rd overall (19:01.88).
