Five Top-Six Finishers Lead Men's Cross Country to Victory at Leopard Invitational

The American University men's cross country team recorded second through sixth place finishes to propel the Eagles to first place at the Leopard Invitational in Easton, Pa.

Junior Mark Allen finished in second place with a time of 25:48.3 and he was followed closely by classmate Mark Leininger (25:49.2). Seniors Josh Olsen (25:58.2) and Ryan Williams (26:05.4) rounded out the top five with sophomore John Pope (26:17.0) placing sixth.

On the women's side, senior Octavia Rinehardt led the Eagles to a third-place team finish as she recorded a second-place individual effort. Her time of 20:48.2 was less than one second behind the race winner, Bloomsburg's Victoria Davis. Rinehardt has now finished in the top-four in all four events this season.

Sophomore Carly Birkhold was American's next-best finisher with her 19th-place result (22:47.7) followed by sophomore Alexandra Tyburski in 22nd-place (22:50.2).

In the team scoring, the men's squad took home the title with 20 points. St. Francis (Pa.) (54 points), La Salle (84 points), and Lehigh (116 points) placed two through four, respectively. On the women's side, Bloomsburg captured the championship with 65 points with Lafayette's 101 points earned second place, 10 points ahead of AU.

American will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, October 29 in Bethlehem, Pa., beginning at 10 a.m.
