Octavia Rinehardt recorded a second-place effort in the women's brown 6k to lead the American University cross country teams at the Paul Short Invitational Friday morning. The event was hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
Rinehardt finished runner-up with a time of 21:42, only two seconds behind the race winner, Rowan's Vanessa Wright. This marks the second straight event that Rinehardt has recorded a top-four finish. As a result of her performance at the Navy Invitational on September 17, she was named the Patriot League Female Runner of the Week and the ECAC Female Runner of the Week.
Alexandra Tyburski was American's next-best finisher on the women's side with her 78th-place result (23:40). The women's team finished in 22nd place out of 44 teams in the brown division.
On the men's side, the Eagles competed in the gold 8k where they earned an 18th-place result. Josh Olsen led AU with a 59th-place finish (25:16) while Mark Allen was also in the top-100 with his time of 25:32 (94th place).
American will return to action on Friday, October 15 at the William and Mary Invitational, beginning at 10 a.m.
