WASHINGTON - The American University's men's and women's track and field teams combined to earn six All-Patriot League selections at the 2008 PL Outdoor Track and Field Championships, conference officials announced Tuesday. Junior Carlos Jamieson earned first-team honors in the 1500 meter run and 4x800 meter relay while senior Cathleen Ford earned the first outdoor All-PL award of her career.
Jamieson earned two First Team All-PL selections for his winning performance in the 1500 meter run on Saturday and as a member of the first place 4x800 meter relay team on Friday. Jamieson set a new PL Championships Meet record in the 1500 as he cruised to his first individual outdoor conference championship. Jamieson completed the course in 3:43.24, topping the previous mark of 3:44.97 set by former Eagle Sean Duffy in 2005. Jamieson's time eclipsed the NCAA East Regional qualifying standard and moved him from fifth to third on AU's all-time top-10 list.
On Friday, Jamieson teamed with seniors Brendan Fennell and Steve Hallinan and freshman Conor Sullivan to win the 4x800 meter relay, marking AU's seventh-consecutive victory in the event. The four combined for a final time of 7:29.49 which is the third fastest 4x800 relay time in school history.
Hallinan's selection to the All-PL first team is the third of his career and fourth overall. Fennell had previously garnered two All-PL selections including one first team nod while for Jamieson and Sullivan this year's recognition is the first of their careers.
Ford was named to the All-PL Second Team for her second-place performance in the 5000 meter run Saturday. Ford ran a 17:42.41 in the event, earning the senior the first outdoor All-PL selection of her career. Ford's selection to the second team is the first All-PL selection for AU's women's team since Keira Carlstrom was named to the first team in 2006.
