Hallinan Named ECAC Track Athlete of the Week

April 18, 2008

WASHINGTON - American University senior Steve Hallinan has been named the East Coast Athletic Conference Div. I Track Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced Friday. Hallinan posted a conference top time on his way to victory in the men's 1500 meter invitational on Friday at the Bison Outdoor Classic.

Hallinan placed first in the men's 1500 meter invite by less than half a second margin, holding off Yale's Jared Bell for the victory in 3:44.28. Hallinan's time surpassed Army's John Mickowski's time of 3:47.19, ran just last week at the Auburn Tiger Classic, for the top 1500 meter time in the PL this season and is the third-fastest time ever posted by an AU runner in the event. The time also eclipsed the NCAA Regional mark by more than three seconds and automatically qualifies Hallinan for the NCAA East Regional Meet, a qualifier for the NCAA Championships.

This is Hallinan's first ECAC Div. I Runner of the Week honor in outdoor track and is his first weekly award from the conference since being named the Div. I Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 26.
