WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's track teams are splitting up their squads this weekend, sending a handful of Eagles to the University of Maryland Invitational and a handful to the 2008 Adidas Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State University.
Eight Eagles will compete in Raleigh, N.C., six men and two women, in five events. On Friday, March 28, the men's 4x1500 meter relay team of seniors Steve Hallinan and Brian McCabe and freshmen Conor Sullivan and Kyle Gaffney will compete first, followed by senior Brendan Fennell and junior Carlos Jamieson in the 5000 meter run. On the women's side, senior Cathleen Ford will also compete in the 5000 meter run. On Saturday, March 29, senior Kate Lilley will be competing in the women's 1500 meter run before Hallinan and McCabe return to the track for the invitational 800 meter event.
At the UMD Invite on Saturday, sophomore Dan King and freshman Morgan Block will look to build on their already successful seasons and lead a young group of Eagles into action. King and Block will compete in the 200 and 400 meter dash, respectively. Also competing at Maryland on the men's side will be sophomores Kris Kagan, and Doug Swiatocha as well as freshmen Jason Baker, Jeff Brannigan and Jeremiah Headen. On the women's side junior Meghan Mason will lead sophomore Greta Wicklund and freshmen Mary Jane Egan, Melissa Tabas and Gena Turner.
