AU Men's and Women's Indoor Track Teams Combine for Eight All-PL Honors

Feb. 26, 2008

WASHINGTON - Seven different student-athletes from the American University men's and women's indoor track teams were named to the All-Patriot League teams, led by Junior Carlos Jamieson who earned two first-team selections for his winning efforts in the men's 5000 meter run and 3000 meter run at last week's PL Championships.

On Friday, Jamieson entered the 5000 meter as the second seed with a season best time of 14:42.84. Jamieson blew away that seed time in the championships race, winning in 14:29.82 and finishing three-plus seconds in front of top seeded Jonathon Anderson of Army. Jamieson's win in the 5000 meter earned him the first PL Indoor Championship of his career.

Jamieson returned to the track on Sunday in the 3000 meter run, this time seeded fifth with a season best 8:22.62. Just as he did the previous day, Jamieson ran much faster than his seed time and won his second PL Championship in as many days with a time of 8:16.68 and a two-plus second margin. Jamieson's time in the 3000 meter not only won him the championship but also put him at seventh place on AU's all-time top-10 list.

Cathleen Ford also won her first career PL Indoor Championship at this year's meet, taking the women's 3000 meter title to give AU a clean sweep in the event. Ford, again like Jamieson, entered the race as the fifth seed with a season best time of 10:16.56. As a senior at her final PL Indoor Championships, Ford did not hold anything back and ran a winning time of 10:01.34 to set a new personal record and top her previous career best by four-plus seconds. Ford's closest competitor, Stacey Marion from Colgate, finished more than five seconds slower. Ford's new personal record moved her from fourth place to third on AU's all-time list.

AU's final championship of the meet came in Sunday's men's distance medley relay. Conor Sullivan, Dan King, Brian McCabe and Steve Hallinan combined for a winning time of 10:00.23 and ran better than 10 seconds faster than the second-place finishing team from Colgate. The time put up by Sullivan, King, McCabe and Hallinan also earned them a place on AU's all-time top-10 list at fifth.

Senior Brendan Fennell was the only Eagle named to the All-PL Second Team, earning the distinction for his second place finish in the men's mile run. Fennell entered the race as the defending champion and posted a season-best time of 4:12.79 but was beat out by Colgate's Lyle Tolli who won the event in a time of 4:12.21.
