AU Seniors Sweep 1500 Meter Run Invitational at Bison Outdoor Games

April 12, 2008

WASHINGTON - Seniors Steve Hallinan and Kate Lilley swept the 1500 meter invitational portion of the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Games on Friday, setting new Patriot League season best times in the process. Hallinan won the men's race in a time of 3:44.28 while Lilley came in first in 4:31.98.

In the men's race, Hallinan held off Yale's Jared Bell for the victory, finishing in a season best time of 3:44.28. Hallinan's time surpassed Army's John Mickowski's time of 3:47.19, ran just last week at the Auburn Tiger Classic, for the top 1500 meter time in the PL this season. The time also automatically qualifies Hallinan for the NCAA East Regional Meet where he will join teammate Carlos Jamieson who has also qualified in the 1500.

AU also took sixth, ninth and 12th place in the men's 1500 meter invite. Jamieson finished sixth in 3:47.98 while Brendan Fennell took ninth and Brian McCabe 12th in times of 3:50.31 and 3:51.50, respectively. Jamieson's time was just slower than his season best and NCAA East Region qualifying time of 3:47.39 ran last month. Fennell and McCabe both surpased their previous season best times in the event.

Lilley earned the victory in the women's 1500 meter invite with a time of 4:31.98 and nearly a full second margin between her and the second-place finisher, Priscilla Jennings from Millersville. Lilley's performance in the race also earned her the top spot in the PL, as she overtook teammate Cathleen Ford who held the conference's previous top time of 4:37.99.

The Bison Outdoor Games is a non-team scored competition.

American will return to the track in Lewisburg, Pa., on Saturday, April 12, as the Bison Outdoor Games come to a close.
