AU Men's and Women's Track Teams in Action at Maryland Invitational

WASHINGTON - The American University men's and women's track teams competed in the Maryland Invitational on Saturday on the campus of the University of Maryland where the men's team combined for four top-10 finishes. Freshman Jeremiah Headen recorded two top-10 finishes while classmate Jeff Brannigan and sophomore Kris Kagan recorded one apiece.

Headen competed in the 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles and placed fourth and 10th, respectively. In the 110 hurdles Headen placed eighth in the prelims with a time of 16.13 to qualify for the finals heat and improved to fourth place with a 15.70 in the finals. Maryland's Dominic Berger won the 110 hurdles in 13.79. In the 400 hurdles Headen took 10th with a time of 59.17 while Kevin McLeod from Bucknell won the event in 53.87.

Kagan ran to a ninth-place finish in the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.11 while La Salle's Korey Edwards won the event in 1:52.34.

Brannigan earned AU's finish top-10 finish, placing 10th in the men's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:01.94. Greg Kelsey from Maryland took first in the event in 3:56.32.

The AU men's and women's track teams will take the next week off and will return to action April 11-12 when the squads split up between the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Games in Lewisburg, Pa., and the Onesty/Abramson Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
