WASHINGTON - Nine members of the American University track & field team are traveling to West Point, N.Y., this week for Thursday's West Point Twilight Meet, hosted by Army at Shea Stadium. This comes less than a week after the team opened the postseason schedule at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships where the men earned an eighth-place team finish and the women came in seventh.
Senior Brianna Belo will return to the track after claiming her third consecutive PL title in the 800m run on Saturday, crossing just off her school record with a 2:07.79 finish. Belo, who is already within qualification for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the 800m run, will feature in both the 200m and 400m dashes on Thursday.
On the men's side, sophomore Justin Dignan will open the evening's schedule in the 800m run while the foursome of junior Ben Doiron, sophomore Gerard D'Ambrosio III, junior Matthew Rainey and senior Alaeldin Tirba will feature in the 1500m run. Rainey will look to bump up into qualification for the NCAA East Preliminary Round in the event - he currently ranks 62nd in the region with his personal record of 3:45.70 with the top-48 qualifying.
