WASHINGTON - American University track & field junior Matthew Rainey earned his third career Academic All-Patriot League nod, the league office released on Monday.
The Brentwood, Tenn., native made his debut on the Academic All-League squad during the 2017 outdoor season then followed it up with another selection during the 2017 cross country season. He currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.53 as a CLEG (Communications, Law, Economics & Government) major.
Rainey closed his indoor campaign with a pair of podium finishes at the Patriot League Championships, placing second as a member of the men's 4x800-meter relay and distance medley relay (DMR). Both teams earned new AU all-time top ten finishes, with the 4x800m squad crossing with the tenth-fastest time in program history (7:39.71), and the DMR finishing with the eighth-fastest (10:07.96).
