Track & Field Heads to Patriot League Outdoor Championships

WASHINGTON – It's postseason time for the American University track and field team as the Eagles head to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Patriot League Outdoor Championships.  Hosted by Lehigh, the two-day meet will be held at the Goodman Track & Field Complex on Friday, May 5, and Saturday, May 6.

Four Eagles enter the weekend's events ranked in the top ten in the league for their respective events, starting with junior Liam Purdy who is fourth in the PL with his 1:51.70 personal record (PR) from the Colonial Relays.

Purdy, who currently sits at No. 7 on the program's all-time top ten list for the 800m run, will be joined by another all-time top ten performer with sophomore Matthew Rainey.  Rainey currently sits at No. 5 in the league rankings with his season-best finish (1:52.90) and holds the tenth-fastest time in AU history with his 2016 PR (1:52.39).

A stacked crew is also set to take the line for the men's 5000m run, starting with the seventh-ranked sophomore Ben Doiron.  Doiron hit a new PR during Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, crossing in 14:30.32 to land just outside of the program's all-time top ten.  He will be joined on the line by freshman Gerard D'Ambrosio, sophomore Tommy Sommer and junior Alaeldin Tirba.

Sophomore Trevor Patton will highlight the field events for the Eagles as he enters the long jump with the 11th-best mark in the league so far this season.  He hit a new PR of 6.86m (22-6.25) at the Hopkins Invitational earlier in the season, moving up into the No. 2 slot on the all-time top ten list.

On the women's side, sophomore Adriana Hooks leads the rankings for the Eagles with the seventh-fastest 5000m run time in the conference.  She broke the coveted 17-minute mark at the Colonial Relays, crossing in 16:59.13 to land at No. 4 in program history.  Hooks enters the meet after hitting the fourth-fastest 3000m run time in program history during the Penn Relays last weekend (9:51.04).

A trio of women is set to take the line in the women's 1500m run with freshman Katelyn Deibler, sophomore Jude Mabone and sophomore Kailee Traficante, while sophomore Sammie Paul will close out the individual performers in the women's 800m run.
