WASHINGTON - The American University track & field team is beginning its regular season wind-down this weekend, as 11 Eagles travel to Baltimore, Md., for the Morgan State Legacy Meet on Saturday, April 22.
AU is one of three Patriot League teams scheduled to appear at the meet with Boston University and Loyola Maryland also slated to compete at Hughes Stadium.
The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with sophomore Trevor Patton in the men's long jump. Patton moved up into the No. 2 slot in the AU record books in the event last weekend, hitting a new personal record (PR) of 6.86m (22-6.25) to claim the first place finish at the Hopkins Invitational.
Track events will start an hour later with the women's 1500m run, featuring junior Jude Mabone, sophomore Kailee Traficante and freshman Katelyn Deibler. The first of the Eagles' two sprints events will be next, as freshman Emily Houghton takes the line in the women's 400m dash.
The AU men will take the line for the first time at 3 p.m. with freshman Justin Dignan in the 800m run. First up, though, will be sophomore Sammie Paul and freshman Kaitlyn McTernan in the women's 800m run.
Freshman Lucia Rose will close out the women's events at 3:15 p.m. with the women's 200m dash, followed by sophomore Tommy Sommer and freshman Gerard D'Ambrosio in the men's 5000m run.
Another Eagle slated to compete this weekend is sophomore Ben Doiron, who will travel to Princeton, N.J., for the Princeton Invitational. Doiron will be featured in the 5000m run field at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
