Rainey, Belo Clock Top Ten Finishes to Highlight Spring Invite

FAIRFAX, Va. - The American University track and field team closed out a busy few weeks on Saturday, April 8, with the George Mason Invitational.  Five Eagles highlighted the evening's events with new personal records (PR's), including sophomore Matthew Rainey and junior Brianna Belo who led the team with top ten finishes in their respective events.

Belo hit her second consecutive AU All-Time Top Ten mark with her 4:33.29 finish in the 1500m run, good for 10th in the field.  She broke her own school record in the 800m run during last weekend's Colonial Relays, leading the field with a final time of 2:07.53.  Her performance on Saturday evening now puts her in yet another event record book as the seventh-fastest 1500m performance in program history.

Belo was one of four PR performances that came out of the women's 1500m.  Sophomore Adriana Hooks followed with a new career-best 4:39.86 and now sits just outside the All-Time Top Ten list for the event.  Sophomore Kailee Traficante and freshman Katelyn Deibler also hit new personal bests with 4:58.75 and 5:05.48, respectively.

On the men's side, Rainey crossed with the highest individual finish on the team, placing ninth in the 1500m run.  His 3:49.06 crossing was good for a new PR and puts him just off the No. 10 time in school history (3:49.04).

The Eagles will now take some downtime before they resume competition on Saturday, April 22, at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.  For the latest on American Track & Field, stay tuned to AUEagles.com and follow the team on Twitter @AU_TrackXC.
