Track & Field Set for George Mason Spring Invitational

WASHINGTON - The American University track and field team is heading into its final stretch of regular season meets this weekend with a quick trip to Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Spring Invitational on Saturday, April 8.

The Eagles will return four of the five individual performers from last weekend's Colonial Relays, which was highlighted by a new school record at the hands of junior Brianna Belo.  Belo cruised to her second event win of the season in the 800m run, breaking her own record in the event with a 2:07.53 crossing.  She currently leads the Patriot League in the event and ranks 18th in the NCAA.

Sophomore Adriana Hooks and junior Liam Purdy are also returning to the track after personal record performances.  Hooks moved up into the No. 4 slot on the AU All-Time Top Ten list for the 5000m run with her 16:59.13 finish to take seventh at the Colonial Relays.  Purdy, who has now earned personal records (PR's) in each of his three meets so far this season, took fourth in the 800m run at the Relays with the seventh-fastest time in program history, 1:51.70.

The two women will speed things up a bit this weekend with Belo set to compete in the 400m dash and Hooks in the 800m run, while Purdy will be featured in the 1500m run.

Sophomore Grace Goulding is the only other current AU school record holder scheduled to compete on Saturday.  She holds the top high jump mark in school history at 1.58m (5-2.25).

Sophomore Trevor Patton will close out the field events for the Eagles in the men's long jump.  Patton hit a wind-aided mark of 6.85m (22-5.75), which would have been good for the No. 2 spot in the AU record books if not for the 2.2 tailwind.
