Track & Field Set for GMU Patriot Games

WASHINGTON – The American University track & field team is staying close to home again this weekend, traveling to Fairfax, Va., for the Patriot Games, hosted by George Mason on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Schedule of Events

This weekend is shaping up to be the largest competition yet for the Eagles this season, as they join 20 schools at the George Mason Field House.  Included among that number are Atlantic 10 programs George Mason, George Washington and Richmond, along with several other local teams.  American is the only Patriot League school scheduled to attend.

The Eagles have seen quite a bit of success throughout the early season, including seven personal records (PR's) and a new All-Time Top Ten performance from junior Brianna Belo.

Belo, who will take to the line in the 500m dash on Saturday, clocked through with the second-fastest 800m time in school history during the Navy Mid-Week Invitational on Jan. 19, winning the event in 2:13.96.  She has finished in the top two of the field in each of her three meets so far this season, including two first-place crossings at the Navy Mid-Week Invite and the Terrapin Invitational on Jan. 21.

Sophomore Grace Goulding also started her season with a new PR, taking second in the high jump at the Navy Mid-Week Invitational with a PR bar of 1.60m (5-3).  She will join junior Trevor Patton, school record holder in the men's long jump, as the two lone field event athletes on the Eagles' slate.

Patton is also scheduled to take to the blocks for his first 60m dash of the season.

Junior Alaeldin Tirba will look to break into the All-Time All-Top Ten for the mile, after sitting within a second of a record book performance with his 4:10.87 PR from the 2016 Patriot League Championships.  Joining him will be sophomore Ben Doiron and fellow-junior Liam Purdy.

In the women's 1000m run, sophomore Adriana Hooks is set to make her return to the track after winning the 3000m run at the Terrapin Invitational last weekend.  She will be joined on the line by freshmen Arianna Lopez and Kaitlyn McTernan.
