ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The American University men's track and field team kicked off its 2017 indoor schedule on Saturday, Jan. 14, after a squad traveled up to Navy for the Winter Invitational. The Eagles closed the three-team meet with two individual wins, six top three finishes, and one new personal record (PR).
Junior Alaeldin Tirba clocked the lone PR of the day in the 3000m run en route to his second individual win of the season. He began the indoor circuit with a win on the Navy track in December, clocking in at 9:09.48 for the 3000m. He cut 47 seconds off that time on Saturday, landing just four seconds outside of AU's All-Time Top Ten for the event with an 8:22.09 finish.
Sophomore Chandler Ross made his mile debut in the AU uniform on Saturday, leading the field with a 4:14.98 finish. He also sits just four seconds outside of the All-Time Top Ten for the event.
Sophomore Trevor Patton was the lone field event competitor for the day, finishing second in the long jump with a top mark of 6.60m (21-8). Patton currently holds the school record for the event at 6.71m (22-0.25).
The AU women will take their turn on the Navy track next week with the Navy Mid-Week Meet on Thursday, Jan. 19.
