SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Ben Doiron posted a season-best mark in the men's 1,500-meter run, while AU assistant coaches Chris Kwiatkowski and Ryan Mahalsky finished 1-2 in the men's 5,000 Monday at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier.
Doiron went 3:52.34 in the 1,500, posting the second-fastest time of the year by an AU male in that event. The Eagle freshman went two seconds under his previous season-best, set last month at the Hopkins/Loyola Invitational.
Kwiatkowski ran 13:54.56 to win by nearly two seconds over Mahalsky. Those two finished 30 seconds ahead of the third-place runner.
Both Eagle assistant coaches were representing the District Track Club.
Matthew Rainey was 15th in the men's 800 at 1:53.49, and Judy Maboné went 4:52.46 in the women's 1,500.
AU runners will learn on Thursday regarding berths they've earned to the NCAA National Championships. Student-athletes with the top 48 marks in the East Prelims advance into the championships.
Currently, Eagles junior Brendan Johnson is ranked 43rd in the East Region in the men's 10,000.
The East Regional Preliminary Rounds will be held May 26 to 28 in Jacksonville, Fla., with the West Regionals to be the same weekend in Lawrence, Kan.
