Tirba, Rainey Finish 1-2 at Morgan State Legacy Meet

BALTIMOREAlaeldin Tirba and Matthew Rainey combined for a sweep of the top two positions in the men's 1,500-meter run to highlight performances by the American University track and field team Saturday at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.

Tirba went 3:55.59 to win a duel at the line with his teammate, with just 0.06 seconds separating the two Eagles at the tape.

Chandler Ross was sixth in 4:01.57,  as the three AU runners combined for 21 points in that single event. That total placed American ninth in the men's team standings.
 
Jim Belfatto (1:56.72), Ben Doiron (1:57.48) and Connery Ryon (1:59.97) each had solid runs in the men's 800 for the Eagles.
 
On the women's side, Anike Oladeji went a season-best 2:21.08 in the 800, with Emily Weigand going 2:21.36 in her first appearance of the season in that event.
 
Later, Oladeji, Kelseagh Budris, Brianna Belo and Sammie Paul ran 4:09.83 in the women's 4x400 relay, posting the third-best time ever at AU in that event.
 
American will participate in next weekend's Penn Relays at historic Franklin Field. The Eagles are in the final stages of preparation for the Patriot League Outdoor Championships to be hosted by Bucknell on May 6 and 7.
