Pair of AU School Records Fall at Mason Spring Meet

FAIRFAX, Va.Kinnari Badger and Brianna Belo each set school records Saturday as American University competed at the Mason Spring Invitational track meet at George Mason University.

Badger went 25.90 in the women's 200-meter dash to post AU's first-ever mark under 26 seconds in the event. She bested the school record of 26.46 of Catherine Hummel, set in 2006.

Anisa Santiago had a career-best 27.46 in the event, improving on her mark that already held the ninth spot on AU's all-time list.
 
Belo rolled to a 57.59 time in the women's 400, cutting exactly a second off the school record. Zaia Wharton ran 58.59 in 2006 to post AU's previous school record.
 
For the AU men, freshman Jim Belfatto ran 3:50.66 in the 1,500, cutting six seconds off his previous season-best in the event and posting a qualifying time for the IC4A Outdoor Championships.
He became the third Eagle to earn an IC4A mark so far in the 2015 outdoor season, joining Josh Ellis (3,000 steeplechase) and Tom Woermer (10,000)
 
Belfatto was 14th overall in the event on Saturday, followed just behind by Ellis, who was 17th in 3:51.03. Alaeldin Tirba also had a season-best mark with a 3:54.05.
 
Three Eagles surpassed the 2-minute mark in the men's 800 on Saturday, as Liam Purdy (1:55.16), Terrell Green (1:57.42) and Liam May (1:57.69) each had season-bests.
 
Woermer continued his strong outdoor season for the Eagles, finishing second in the men's 5,000 with a time of 14:35.75. He was behind only Dartmouth's Julian Heninger, who won in 14:32.78.
 
Woermer now owns AU's best marks of the season at both 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
 
Kelseagh Budris ran 2:16.71 to post the Eagles' best mark of the season in the women's 800, while Corina Velazco had AU's top time of the season in the 1,500 at 4:40.61.
 
AU assistant coach Kerri Gallagher won the women's 1,500 in a time of 4:18.51.
 
American, which is training in preparation for the Patriot League Outdoor Championships on May 1 and 2 at Army, is scheduled to compete next at the Morgan State Legacy Meet next Saturday in Baltimore.
