Track Set to Compete at Colonial Relays This Weekend


The American University men's and women's outdoor track teams head to Williamsburg, Va. for the 49th Annual Colonial Relays on Friday, Apr. 4 and Saturday, Apr. 5.

The Eagles last competed at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday in College Park, Md. John Pope and Nick Regan registered a 2-3 finish, respectively, in the men's 5,000 meter run to lead all finishers. Joshua Ellis placed second in the 1,500 meter run and Brendan Johnson earned a fifth place result in the 3,000 meter run to round out the top placewinners for American.

On the women's side, Julienne DeVita placed fifth in the 1,500 meter run. Ali Tyburski, Julia Sullivan and Corina Velazco finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meter run.

At last year's Colonial Relays, Pope finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run, posting an IC4A time and setting the fourth-fastest mark at American. Tyburski recorded the sixth-fastest time in program history in the 1,500 meter run, setting a new personal-best to place 16th and Sullivan finished 25th with the 10th-fastest mark at American.

Over 50 collegiate teams are set to participate at this year's Colonial Relays. Running events begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with competition resuming at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Click here to follow the Eagles throughout the event.
