Track Heads to Maryland Invitational

The American University men's and women's outdoor track teams will travel to College Park, Md. on Saturday, Mar. 29 for the Maryland Invitational.

Nick Regan is coming off his first individual title of the outdoor season after winning the 1,500 meter run at the Navy Spring Invitational last Saturday, setting a new personal-best time and leading the men's team to fourth place team finish. Thomas Woermer and Constantine Matsakis rounded out the top-five finishers for the men's squad with Woermer finishing fourth in the 10,000 meter run and Matsakis placing fifth in the 800 meter race.

The women's team was led by Krystal Foster who finished third in the 5,000 meter run. Corina Velazco placed fifth in the 1,500 and Ali Tyburski finished seventh in the 800.

Last season at the Maryland Invitational, Regan and John Pope registered runner-up finishes in the 3,000 and 1,500 meter runs, respectively, and Tyburski and Julia Sullivan finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,500 meter run.

Saturday's field features 11 area schools including Catholic, UDC, Essex CC, George Washington, Johns Hopkins, Loyola (Md.), Maryland, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, Richard Bland and St. Thomas Aquinas. Running events will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Kehoe Track Complex.
