Track Opens Outdoor Season at Navy Invitational

The American University outdoor track team heads to Annapolis, MD., for its season opener this Saturday at the Navy Invitational. 

The women's team returns indoor track Academic All-Patriot League Team selection Julia Sullivan, who led the Eagles with a fourth place finish in the 3,000 meter race with an ECAC qualifying time at the 2014 Patriot League Indoor Championships. The mark was her third qualifying time of the indoor season.

Nick Regan and Brendan Johnson led American during the indoor season with IC4A qualifying times in the 3,000 and 5,000 meter run, respectively. Regan won the indoor mile at the Terrapin Invitational, setting a career-best mark to win the event. Johnson earned M-F Athletic Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week honors Feb. 11 for his performance in the indoor 5,000 at the New Balance Invitational.

Constantine Matsakis was the highest Eagles' male finisher at the Patriot League Indoor Championships with an eighth place finish in the mile. John Pope earned his eighth career Academic All-Patriot League selection during the indoor season and posted an IC4A qualifying mark in the 3,000 meter run at the New Balance Invitational.

The Navy Invitational will feature the Eagles as well as Navy and Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday, Mar. 22.
