Sophomore John Pope has been named to the Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-Patriot League Team. The award is the third for Pope, who earned the recognition for both cross country and indoor track this year.
The international studies major finished 12th in the 5,000 meter run at the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Championships. He set two personal bests during the year in the 5,000 meter run at the Bison Outdoor Classic (14:39.17) and in the 1,500 meter run at the Navy Invitational Duals (3:58.24). The Carlisle, Pa. native also owns a trio of top-10 finishes in the 1,500 meter run with his fifth place finish at the Navy Invitational Duals, a seventh place finish at the Maryland Invitational and a fifth place finish at the Morgan State Legacy Meet.
Pope earned a 3.81 cumulative GPA, and was recognized on the Dean's List for the past two semesters. He was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in each of his three eligible semesters.
Unlike the Academic Honor Roll, the Academic All-Patriot League Team is limited to only 10 recipients on both the men's and women's teams. To be eligible for either award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honors.
