Track and Field to Compete at Patriot League Outdoor Championships

The American University track and field teams will head to the 2012 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 in Worcester, Mass.

Reigning Patriot League 5,000 meter champion Octavia Rinehardt will lead the Eagles after capturing her fourth Patriot League title last season. Ali Tyburski also registered a top finish of the returning women's team members, placing fifth in the 1,500 meter run.

The men's team returns four top-10 finishers from last year's Patriot League Championships, including Mark Allen, who placed fifth in the 5,000 meter run, and Zach Wright, who tallied a fifth place finish in the high jump. Ryan Williams and Mark Leininger posted sixth and seventh place finishes in the 10,000 meter run to round out the top-10 finishers for the Eagles.

Josh Olsen has led American this season and owns the fourth-best time in the Patriot League in the 5,000 meter run. The senior posted a time of 14:22.60 after winning the Bison Outdoor Classic earlier this year. Williams also took home an individual title during the outdoor season in the 5,000 meter run at the Maryland Invitational with a time of 14:49.62.

Rinehardt captured the lone individual title for the women's team during the outdoor season, winning the 1,500 meter run at the Morgan State Legacy Meet with a time of 4:44.65.
