Koch '10, '11, Eustis '11 Named to All-Academic Team

American University alums Erin Koch '10, '11 and Colin Eustis '11 have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team, adding one more honor to the pair's stellar senior campaigns.

Koch maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in the College of Arts and Sciences, where she is pursuing her masters in mathematics. She earned her undergraduate degree in mathematics in May 2010 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.91 GPA. Koch was also awarded the Hanna Miriam Sandler Scholarship in 2010, an honor intended to support either research in mathematics or research in mathematics education involving the teaching of college-level mathematics. The Perkasie, Pa. native is a seven-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection and was named to the Academic All-Patriot League for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

Koch's senior season came to an end at the NCAA East Regional Meet where she placed ninth in the 1,500 meter quarterfinals. She placed second in the 1,500 meter run at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships to earn All-Patriot League Second Team honors, while also placing third in the 800 meter run with the second-fastest time in school history (2:09.86). Koch broke the school record in the 1,500 meter twice this season, most recently posting a time of 4:22.56 at the Mt. SAC Relay's on April 14. She also ranks second on the school's all-time top 10 list in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and 3,000 meter run. Earlier in the year Koch was named to the All-Patriot League Second Team for cross country and indoor track and set a new school record of 4:46.19 in the indoor mile.

Eustis graduated in May with a cumulative GPA of 3.66 as a business administration major in the Kogod School of Business, specializing in both accounting and international business. Eustis is a seven-time Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection and was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team for cross country, indoor track and outdoor track.

The senior earned All-Patriot League Second Team honors during the outdoor season by placing second in the 10,000 meter run at conference championship meet. His time of 30:29.70 in the event stands as the second fastest in program history. Eustis also earned two All-Patriot League Second Team honors during the indoor season, was named to the All-Patriot League First Team for cross country, and broke the school record in the indoor 5,000 meter run.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
