The American University women's indoor track team kicked off its season on Tuesday at the Navy Lid-Lifter meet in Annapolis, Md., where senior Rachel Forcino and sophomore Octavia Rinehardt led the team with a pair of second-place finishes.
Forcino took second in the 5000 meter run, posting a time of 18:15.73. She was followed closely by classmate Greta Wicklund who took third in 18:23.81.
Rinehardt placed second in the 1600 meter run, striding through the finish line in a time of 5:08.31. She was joined in the even by Jessica Micciolo who placed 10th in 5:57.09.
Also competing for American were freshmen Tina Thomas and Katherine Hekker. Thomas posted the third-fastest time in American history in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line in 1:01.91 to place eighth. Hekker took fourth in the 800 meter run, clocking a time of 2:28.29 which is good for 10th in the school record books.
The Eagles went 0-4 as a team in the dual meet formatted scoring, falling to Navy, Towson, Mount St. Mary's and Morgan State.
