Seven AU Runners Named to Patriot League All-League Teams

Keira Carlstrom was named the 2004 Patriot League Track Championship Track Athlete of the Meet.

WASHINGTON - American University track athletes Keira Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) have been selected the 2004 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championship Track Athletes of the Meet, just two of seven American University track athletes to be named to the PL's First and Second All-League teams, PL officials announced Thursday.

Carlstrom was honored for winning the 800m and 1500m races. The award adds to a growing list of accolades for Carlstrom. The sophomore was named to the PL outdoor track All-League team last year, and was named to the PL indoor track All-League teams in her freshman and sophomore seasons. Furthermore, Carlstrom was named the 2003 PL Cross Country Runner of the Meet and set a PL record for a female by finishing 16th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Sean Duffy won the 800m and 1500m races at the PL Championship Meet en route to Track Athlete of the Meet honors.

Duffy also won the 800m and 1500m races. The junior makes his third appearance on the PL outdoor All-League teams. Duffy's 800m time of 1:52.38 was a personal best and the fourth-best time in AU history. The award is the culmination of a year in which Duffy was named to the PL First Team for Cross Country and the PL Indoor Track Second Team.

Four other Eagles joined Duffy on the PL men's First Team. Senior Matt Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) earned a spot on the First Team for winning the 5000m and 10,000m events. It is the third consecutive year in which Seymour was named to the PL's All-League teams. In addition, Alex Caudana (Irvine, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), Dustin Emrani (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) and Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton) were named to the First Team for their performance, alongside Duffy, in the 4x800m.

On the women's side, freshman Kelley Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) was named Second Team All-League for her second-place finish in the 5000m.

AU's men's and women's outdoor track teams finished fourth and sixth, respectively, at the Patriot League Championship Meet on April 30 and May 1.
