WEST POINT, N.Y. - The American University men's and women's track teams brought home seven individual titles and placed fourth and sixth, respectively, at the two-day Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championship meet that concluded Saturday at Army.
Carlstrom (Oakton, Va./Oakton) and seniors Sean
Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Matt
Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) each captured two individual
titles each. In addition, American's men's 4x800m relay team of Alex
Caudana (Irvine, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic), Duffy, Dustin
Emrani (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) and Phil
(Herndon, Va./Oakton) won their event.
Carlstrom broke her own school record in winning the 800m event
in a time of
2:11.95 and earned 10 team points for the Eagles. She also won the 1500m
run with a time of 4:27.88, again undercutting a personal best and missing a
school record by merely .22 seconds.
Duffy set a personal best in the 800m, with a time of 1:52.19.
He also won the 1500m race, finishing in 3:47.22, outracing his
nearest competitor by
just .7 seconds.
Seymour dominated the long-distance events. He annihilated the
AU record in
the 10,000m, besting the previous school record by nearly 40 seconds with a
time of 30:41.20. Seymour had never run the 10,000m run in a collegiate
meet before Saturday. Meanwhile, he also won the 5000m run in a time of
Overall, the AU men finished fourth with 69 points, just six
points out of
third place. The Army men won the PL title with 228 points. For the women,
the Eagles finished in sixth place with 42 points, 14 points out of a tie
for fourth place. Bucknell earned the PL team title with 182 overall
