ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The American University men's track team, led by Sean Duffy (Holmes, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), took five of the top six spots in the 1500m run Saturday at Navy in a quad meet versus the Mids, Maine and Ohio.
Duffy won the race, and garnered nine of the Eagles' 42 points on the day, in a time of 3:46.84. Senior Matty Seymour (Rockville, Md./Magruder) followed closely behind, finishing in 3:48.58, a personal best and the fourth-fastest 1500m in school history. Meanwhile, Phil Gaeta (Herndon, Va./Oakton), Conor Lanz (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) and Pat MacAdie (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro Regional) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Freshman Dustin Emrani (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) also captured a victory for AU in the 800m run, with a time of 1:55.53. The Eagles were the only squad besides Navy to earn first-place finishes in the meet. The Mids captured 17 of 19 events, and ran away with the meet with 272 points.
In the 5000m run, sophomore Matt Barresi (Laurel, Md./Atholton) cracked into AU's all-time top-10 with a third-place finish in 14:55.20. AU finished fourth at the meet.
Meanwhile, the AU women's team finished fifth of six teams, including Ohio, Maine, Loyola and Virginia Military Institute, at Navy. Sophomore Megan Simpson (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Township) led the Eagle women's squad with a third place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:20.00 to earn six of AU's 18 points on the day.
The Eagles return to action Saturday, April 3, at the Maryland Invitational.
